Why You Feel Off: The System That Helped Me Come Back to Myself ✨

There’s a specific kind of feeling that’s hard to explain, but you know it when you’re in it.
You’re doing everything “right.” Showing up, being productive, following the steps that are supposed to work. And still, something feels off. Not obviously wrong, just disconnected. A little forced. A little lackluster. Like you’re moving through your life, but not fully in it. It doesn’t quite feel like main character energy.
My name is Valerie, and above all, I see myself as a curious and determined soul here as a student of this Earth, learning, evolving, and walking my own unique path and purpose. I’m a licensed Occupational Therapist and a multidisciplinary practitioner, blending movement, mindfulness, and energetic awareness into a holistic, mind-body-spirit approach to self-discovery and transformation. With a background in Lagree fitness, meditation, and Human Design, I support individuals in reconnecting to their inner truth, honoring their natural gifts, and cultivating deep self-trust, not just in theory, but in the way they live, move, and make decisions every day. This path has also led me into more collaborative and immersive spaces, including co-creating and co-hosting retreat experiences with Elisha, where this work comes to life in a deeply embodied, real-time way.
In 2023, I found both surfing and Human Design, two things that quietly marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Surfing became a way for me to experience presence, timing, and trust in a tangible, physical way, learning to read the energy of the waves, wait for the right moment, and move with what life is offering rather than against it. Around the same time, Human Design gave me language for something I had always felt internally but couldn’t quite explain. Together, they opened up a new way of living, one that felt less about forcing and more about navigating life with flow, awareness, and ease.
As I began living more from this place, I started to notice something else. I could feel, more clearly than ever, the places where I wasn’t. It didn’t instantly fix everything. In many ways, it made me more aware, more sensitive to the moments where I was pushing, overriding myself, or trying to move in ways that didn’t quite fit.

Living From Someone Else’s Blueprint
Most of us were never taught how to live in a way that is truly aligned with who we are. We were shaped by our families, environments, and cultures, taught how to be efficient, consistent, and successful, usually by someone else’s definition. Without realizing it, we develop a pattern of looking outside of ourselves for direction. What should I do? What works? What is the “right” way? Over time, our own inner voice, our instincts and quiet knowing, starts to fade into the background.
Why It Still Feels Off
At some point, I realized the reason things felt off wasn’t because I was doing something wrong. It was because I was following a way of living that wasn’t mine. You can do all the “right” things and still feel misaligned if they’re not right for you. It’s what it feels like to be living from someone else’s blueprint instead of your own. A quiet internal mismatch. A subtle pull away from yourself that you might not have language for, but you feel it in your body, in your energy, and in the way things don’t quite land the way they should.
When Something Clicked
When I found Human Design, it didn’t feel like learning something new. It felt like remembering something I had always known, just finally having language for it.
There was something deeply validating in realizing that I’ve always had a natural way of moving through the world, a quiet, inherent power and capacity within me. Human Design gave language to patterns I had always felt but couldn’t explain. More than that, it wasn’t just a theoretical system or set of concepts, it gave me something I could actually use.
What Changed
Human Design became less about information and more about learning to trust myself in real time. As a Human Design Manifestor, one of the energy types, I began experimenting my Human Design strategy of initiating and informing in small, everyday ways. I started each morning with a simple practice of speaking aloud what I wanted to experience, how I wanted to feel, and where I needed support.
Over time, I began to notice something. Life responded, in very real, immediate shifts. When I asked for clarity and confidence before meetings, I showed up and the conversations flowed with ease. When I felt overwhelmed or depleted and asked for support to lighten my workload, things would unexpectedly cancel or reschedule, creating space I didn’t even know I needed. Opportunities and timing seemed to adjust with me in real time.
It wasn’t that life became perfect or effortless, but I started to see, again and again, that when I worked with my energy in a clear and intentional way, something met me there. The way I’m designed to move actually works, not theoretically, but in real life. With that came a deeper trust - in myself, my energy, and how my life unfolds.
A Different Way of Moving
The shift wasn’t about becoming someone new. It was about working with my energy instead of against it, trusting my timing, and letting things come together in a way that actually feels like me. It wasn’t perfect, and it wasn’t always easy, but it felt more true and, in many ways, more effortless.
An Invitation
Human Design isn’t something you have to believe in. It’s something you can experiment with. You don’t need to understand everything or get it right. Just a willingness to start paying attention to yourself in a different way. Because the version of you that feels aligned, clear, and grounded isn’t something you have to become. It’s something you come back to and learn to trust.
What’s Next
In the next post, I’ll break down what Human Design actually is and how you can start working with it in a way that feels simple, grounded, and real. What often surprises people is how practical it is, how quickly you can begin applying it to your daily life, from digestion and environment, to the way you learn, and start seeing real, tangible shifts in how you experience your energy.

For those who feel the pull to experience this work more deeply, this is something I’ve begun bringing into retreat spaces, where we step away from the noise of everyday life and into a more intentional rhythm. Through movement, meditation, Human Design, and time in nature, these experiences are designed to support you in reconnecting to your own timing, your own energy, and your own way of moving through the world. Because sometimes, it’s not about learning more. It’s about creating the space to actually live it.
